How to make the most of your coaching journey!

So, you have decided to dive into some personal development and engage a coach to help! Congratulations! As with anything that has a very personal goal on the line, a very serious commitment must be made. But there is one thing that many people don’t prioritise, which leaves them unable to reach their full coaching potential. That’s consistency.

Spring Cleaning

A big part of our Spring Cleaning process is the act of getting rid of unnecessary clutter. We pack away our winter woollies and bring out our shorts and hats. We roll away our heaters and bring out the fans. We clean out our kitchen cupboards of the chocolate treats and replace them with some healthier, greener options to start shedding the winter weight. Some of us are also cutting out our unhealthy relationships and replacing them with new connections. So, for the most part, we aren’t really clearing the clutter. We are just replacing it. As kids, some of us were motivated through extrinsic means in the hopes it would inspire some intrinsic drive. We were given awards and allowances. We were praised and rewarded. When goals were not achieved, we were criticised and punished.

Candy Crush your Life!

Ever hear people talk about Work-Life balance? Just about every other day right? I realise this topic is a bit sensitive and that I should probably approach it with as much care as one would when telling a child the truth about the well-intended magical story (i.e. big fat lie) of the tooth fairy. The truth is that this well-intended, never achievable mythical state called Work-Life Balance is the tooth fairy of adulthood. It doesn’t exist!

We need a system upgrade!

I shared this image on social media this week and one of my friends commented that it’s ridiculous that this concept has to be repeated so often. It made me wonder, why is this concept something that needs so much repetition in our lives? It’s a concept that many of us believe in, but perhaps we don’t know how to action change where it may be needed.

Are your expectations unrealistic?

If what we expect out of ourselves is extremely out of reach, we will never get past it to do the extraordinary. It’s the hamster in the wheel scenario. When we look at our environments, we might even notice that we hold our loved ones to unrealistic expectations also, especially our children. So can they ever exceed our expectations? Wouldn’t it be amazing for them to know they can?
