How to make the most of your coaching journey!

So, you have decided to dive into some personal development and engage a coach to help! Congratulations! As with anything that has a very personal goal on the line, a very serious commitment must be made. But there is one thing that many people don’t prioritise, which leaves them unable to reach their full coaching potential. That’s consistency.

Consistency is the key to success, in whatever area of life you are focusing on. When it comes to coaching, consistency is more crucial than ever!

Why?

Because most people do not plan consistency for growth. Growth is really the basis of why anyone focuses on personal development. When we are growing, that means we are seeing with a new perspective, learning new things and really are stepping into a dimension we have not known before. So, if we have not planned a way to maintain progress in our journey of personal development, then we fall back to our old habits and our old ‘knowings’. This halts all growth. In fact, it puts you back at square one.

Here are some really simple steps you can follow to ensure you are making the most of your commitment to your personal development. Stick to a plan which allows you to consistently move forward toward your aspirations.

  1. Prior to your coaching session, invest in a brand new journal or book, dedicated to your new journey. This is important! Make it important.

  2. During your coaching session, make notes of your insights, key words and takeaways from the session. There is power in writing.

  3. Write down the agreed ‘next steps’ you will action. Ensure they are small, doable and limited to 3 at the most. Set yourself up for success.

  4. Book in your next coaching session before you leave the current coaching session! Lock it in, and stick to the commitment you have made to yourself. Commit to the process.

  5. Once you are home, use your journal to keep track of your progress on your action items, reflect on how you went, where you struggled, what you learnt and what you loved. You can’t change what you don’t know.

  6. Prepare for your next coaching session by having your journal ready and set an intention to be present and grow even more with awareness and insights on yourself. This is important! Make it important.

  7. Repeat steps 1 to 6 until you achieve your desired outcome. Success!
